Monday Night Mayhem

I've been on the receiving end of plenty of hate mail after some mild criticism of a Vermont resident/armchair Marxist who wants to arrest Bush and Cheney and send them to an "undisclosed country" for trial. It reminded me of arguments in my undergrad years, which in turn reminded me of the WSOU late night metal show Monday Night Mayhem I used to listen to for most of my youth.

Break out your MC and ripped jeans, it's nostalgia night kids. Remember these songs?

First up is Slayer's best, Seasons in the Abyss:

Mercyful Fate's Classic song Desecration of Souls. The video isn't much to look at, but this is the complete song.

Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast

Cathedral doing Midnight Mountain

The video for Electric Crown by Testament

and finally Bewitched by Candlemass.

Horror a Go-Go

I've been trying to transition one of my political blogs into more of a true crime/politics format. crime blogging however is a definite drag on the psyche. Most crime stories are like horror movies once you delve into the details. Horror seems like more of an escape in fact after reading reports of man's inhumanity to man, as it'd be a different world if violence and indignities were committed not by our friends and neighbors, but deformed monsters who we could avoid if we saw them.

With that in mind, a horror themed post tonight. Starting out with horror rock upstarts and future movie star monsters Lordi with their shock anthem Hard Rock Hallelujah:

Here's a vid of of Alice Cooper performing his song The Black Widow from a 70s T.V. special promoting the release of Welcome to my Nightmare. Vincent Price co-stars.

A brilliantly animated version of Edgar Allen Poe's Masque of the Red Death.

The Horror Pops performing "Misstake"

Glen Danzig talks about his book collection.

Kate Bush's Hammer Horror.

Finally, the horror of Elvira-singing and dancing.

Now get some sleep.

Welcome to The Midnight Special

The Midnight Special is an Internet variety show in the spirit of the 70s late night T.V. show of the same name. Here I'll post videos and various links that I thought were interesting but I couldn't use on my other sites.

Late nights when I'm burned out from writing on other projects, I just sit and cruise the web for videos to unwind for a bit. If you like to do the same, you'll like The Midnight Special. Enjoy.

We'll kick things off with one of my favorite late night pleasures, Lacuna Coil's cover of Depeche Mode classic Enjoy the Silence:

The Cherry Knight remix is also a nice late night stop if you're a burlesque fan like I am.

Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson sing My Rifle, My Pony and Me from John Wayne classic Rio Bravo.

Nymphetamine from boundary pushing Black Metal band Cradle of Filth

A wonderfully read performance of H.P. Lovecraft's The Statement of Randolph Carter in two parts. I II

Very NSFW clip of a model some say looks like Betty Page. I don't see it, do you?

And finally, a full version of Nosferatu, rescored and available free on Youtube.
